Anonymous, 4th century. Tessera (Lead, 37x31 mm, 34.68 g). Draped bust of bare-headed young man. Rev. Blank. Likely a fragment of a larger object. An attractive, very large piece, made by a very skilled artist. Good very fine.

From an important collection of Roman and Byzantine seals, tesserae and amulets, formed before 2021.

The style of this portrait on such a large tessera far surpasses that of most contemporary seals, evoking the refined quality of fine Constantinian or even certain Severan youth portraits.
